Any Omani who is above fifteen (15) years of age has to make
an application for an ID card. This is obligatory for males and
optional for females. No authority is allowed to employ any
Omani citizen or a foreigner unless he is holding an ID card. |

People are entered in the Civil Register by their names,
nationality and address. Each registered person is issued a
number referred to as the Civil Number. |

Required documents are to be
presented when registering any of the four civil events to
verify their authenticity, and make transactions easier and
faster. |

Registering in the Civil Register asserts the identity of the
individual and protects his/her rights such as lineage,
possessions, heritage, etc
, and prevents others from dealing
with them illegally. |

Safekeeping such official documents as the ID card and the
civil events certificates saves both time and money. |

|
All births which take place in the Sultanate, births of Omani
citizens and foreigners residing in the Sultanate have to be
reported within two (2) weeks, and within three (3) months for
Omanis if the birth takes place abroad. |

|
Authorized citizens are obligated to report marriage and
divorce civil events when both or one of the parties is Omani
national within thirty (30) days from the date of the event. |

|
Authorized citizens are have to report deaths occurring in the
Sultanate within two (2) weeks from the date of the death, and
within one (1) month if death occurs abroad. |

Citizens have to report any change in the data relating to the
civil status events within thirty (30) days from the date of the
change. |

Any person
registered in the Civil Register has to report residence
and phone numbers changes. |

Make sure that
you have the number attached to your application while
waiting for your turn in one of the halls designated for
this purpose. This will ensure that your application is
processed on time. However, if you fail to do so, you will
have to get a new number and wait for your turn again.

While you are
signing electronically on the card, you should take the
following into consideration:
1- Hold the pen
gently and press on it while writing.
2- Sign between
the two parallel lines (do not touch them or write above
them).
3- Your
signature should be clear enough to appear on the card.

During digital
photography:
1- Make sure that
you are wearing your national dress if you are Omani (turban
and dishdasha). This will enable you to get your ID card on
time.
2- Sit straight
and face the camera lens.
3- Don't wear any
glasses. Otherwise, the flash will reflect on the glasses
and your picture will not be clear. |
