Some countries are implementing a system
known as the Civil Status System whose aim is to facilitate
the individuals’ dealings with the institutions and simplify
procedures for both the citizens and the residents. Both the
system’s large database and its integration of many services
on one can card help the bearer of this same card to conduct
their transactions through simpler procedures with less
effort and in less time.
The Civil Status project in Oman is an
execution of the Royal Decree No (66/99) which ordained that
the Civil Status Law be issued, and whose Article (2)
decreed that a new directorate be established and added to
the existing group of general directorates of the Royal Oman
Police (ROP) to execute the Civil Status Law. It is the
General Directorate of Civil Status. |
The vision of the General Directorate of Civil Status is to
be the national source of the civil events data boosting the
already comprehensive development in the Sultanate. To achieve
this vision, and with the directives of the ROP headquarters,
the General Directorate, along with the cooperating project
executers and the other pertinent institutions, have spared no
effort to prepare the plans, programs and activities that ensure
success of the Civil Status project as it helps enter on records
birth, marriage, divorce and death status events as well as
issuing the ID card for the Omani nationals and Resident card
for the foreigners residing in Oman in accordance with process
and development that the Sultanate is witnessing.
This website is the product of the General Directorate of Civil
Status’s efforts to enlighten, educate and communicate the
concept of the project to the citizens and the residents so that
they are aware of the essence of the project and its goals
beside the afore services offered by the directorate. It is also
a good use of the ultra modern technology that is available,
along with other means that help market the project and educate
both the citizen and the resident.
